Vagabonds - in development
Now you are and I am and we’re a mystery which will never happen again.
In 1873, on the longest Winter’s night, two vagabonds meet in an outlying shepherds hut. Tom has been wandering the bush alone for 10 years; Elena has returned here time and again searching for her lost child. Through the other, each is given a rare opportunity for connection, confession and redemption – but how can the unspeakable ever be forgiven?
Vagabonds is a devised work inspired by an 1873 newspaper article investigating shame, isolation, self-destruction and the enduring need for human connection. It underwent three work-in-progress showings as part of La Mama's Explorations season in 2017.
